Get ready folks, it looks like this Friday they'll all fall in line and sell us out again.
The following is from the Canadian Press:
OTTAWA — Michael Ignatieff allowed his Newfoundland MPs to register a symbolic protest against the federal budget but he's insisting they now support legislation that will actually implement the measures they find so offensive.
The newly minted Liberal leader gave his six MPs from Newfoundland and Labrador special dispensation to break ranks and vote against a motion Tuesday night which conferred approval in principle on the budget.
...
Having cast their protest vote Tuesday, a spokesperson confirmed that Ignatieff now expects the Newfoundland MPs to support the budget on all subsequent votes, including the budget implementation bill.
Moreover, he's told the MPs they can't attempt to amend the bill, which is to be introduced this week.
...
During a closed-door caucus meeting Wednesday, sources said Ignatieff chided the Newfoundland MPs for speaking out publicly against the budget before consulting with him.
Four of the six had already announced their intention to vote against the budget by the time Ignatieff gave them dispensation to do so.
Moreover, sources said Ignatieff warned caucus he doesn't intend to relax discipline again in future.
"He said it was a one-time thing, alone, period, full stop, and for us not to get our hopes up too high because it would not happen again," said one caucus member.
...Scott Andrews said he has no problem dropping the issue after getting the chance to stand up for his province in Tuesday's vote - the only budget vote that matters, as far as he's concerned.
"To me, this is over now," Andrews said in an interview.
"As far as people back home are concerned, we've made our stand on the budget and I'm moving on . . . We could keep reliving things and reliving things but I don't think that's very productive for anybody."
Here we go again folks, it's up to all of us in this Province "help" NL's MPs understand what that this is not just a "protest".
Here's how they can be reached:
NL MP Andrews - Andrews.S@parl.gc.ca
NL MP Byrne - Byrne.G@parl.gc.ca
NL MP Coady - Coady.S@parl.gc.ca
NL MP Foote - Foote.J@parl.gc.ca
NL MP Russell - Russell.T@parl.gc.ca
NL MP Simms - Simms.S@parl.gc.ca
I don't doubt for a minute that history will repeat itself with these MPs selling out their Province like others before them did (read Hearn, Manning, Efford, et al) but there's always a chance. There is one thing that I know for sure.
You'd better think again Scott. All of you better think again.
E-mail I sent to Scott Andrews.
ReplyDeleteHey Scott,
Don't kidd youself you will never get in again.
"Michael Ignatieff allowed his Newfoundland MPs to register a symbolic protest against the federal budget but he's insisting they now support legislation that will actually implement the measures they find so offensive."
We don't what Symbolic representation, we what true representation.

If this is how you feel then I'd say your done in the next election.
Later
What do these people think, that we just want them to put on a show. Why will we keep sending you up there, if you don't have The Guts To Stand Up For the People that Elected and put their Trust in you.
People in NL need to learn if your MPs go against what we want then next Election we Veto them out.
One Chance a One chance Only!
Now our MPs will show their true colours. They should also vote against the amendments.
ReplyDeleteIf history is anything to go by Steve they never will. Once again we get shafted and sold out by our own MPs.
ReplyDeleteIt's time to get the H#ll out of this crooked federation!!
Hey Scott , ther next time you see Ottawa ,they will be doing Day trips around the Moon !!!
ReplyDeleteDont get use to the Office budd !!!
Danny Williams spoke too soon, and now Iggy is knifing him in the back. I bet NFLanders thought they were only elected Liberals for show. At least you have one MP standing up for NFL and that is NDP MP Jack Harris. You need more of those.
ReplyDeleteI emailed MP Judy Foote to have courage!...But I guess my encouragement fell upon deaf ears.
ReplyDeleteDid not realise that there would be a second vote for "implementation " of the Federal Budget.
I saw Todd Russell on the news last night. WHat a knob!
ReplyDeleteTrying to claim he supported the province when he only did it after he was given the OK by Iggy.
He was asked if the Liberals would restore the lost funding if they won government and he couldn't dodge the question fast enough.
What a tool!!!!!
C'mon folks it's time to get out and start calling or emailing your MP. Don't take this lying down Newfoundland and Labrador
ReplyDeleteI'm proud of Scott Andrews for standing up, BEFORE Ignatieff gave permission.
ReplyDeleteAt this point, any votes against are purely symbolic. The point has been made.
By voting against, all of our Liberal MPs would be risking expulsion from caucus, which would strip them of standing in committees as well.
Do you really want to have 6 MPs with no input into anything?
Not me. And to those who say that they won't vote Liberal, and won't vote Conservative... you're narrowing your choices here.
Sure the NDP is voting against - it's easy for them. They'll never be in power and have to make the hard decisions.
Remind me.
ReplyDeleteWhat is the definition of insanity again?
Hope springs eternal in a democracy. You feel you have a choice with the false gods of left and right wing parties, you feel your involved and can make a difference by marking your x.
Unfortunately for a minority prov like NL voting for any of the national PROXY parties of ON/QU which represents the majority 66% it is ETERNALLY HOPELESS!
Remember Martin/Efford, then Harper/Manning/Doyle/Hearne with DION backing him with Byrne/Simms and the Liberal stacked Senate.

You miss the point Avalon Earl. Supporting any of the parties is a farce and those MPs have proven that they have no power whether they are in caucus or not.
ReplyDeleteThere are options.
The best thing this Province could do, short of seperation, is to not send any MPs in the next election, not one from any party. In other words we may have to remain technically a part of Canada but we can turn our back on it.
You seem to appreciate symbolic gestures and this would be a fantastic symbolic act of civil disobedience that nobody could miss. Imagine, not one vote for any candidates

With all respect Earl, can you say that to yourself and honestly believe that thease Liberal MPs are going to have any "POWER" or "INPUT" as you would call it. I strongly think not.Canada simply does not want your imput to begin with. Be them Liberal or Conservative. I'm not the sharpest pencil in the case but I've come to that conclusion a long ago my man.
" Republic Of "
Ditto
ReplyDeleteYou guys can't be that thrilled with Danny Boy. Most of us think he is a bully, arrogant, and a dictator. Personally, I lost all respect for Danny Boy when he took down our Canadian flag a few years ago. He is a disgrace as one our Canadians leaders. Shame on him.
ReplyDeleteI'm sorry Anon 8:01 but, being a stupid newfie I'm not sure whether you meant to say Williams is a disgrace to "your" canadian leaders or that he is disgracing "your" canadian leaders. In my goofy newfie mind it seems like the latter is more to the point.
ReplyDeleteMaybe "you" canadians should just kick Williams out of the country and tell him to take the people who elected him as well.
Sounds like a plan to me. I'd love to see it happen.
Now that I've fed your stereotype of a dumb little newf do me a favor and F&^K Off
More spam guys sry, but when you are 1/2 mil fighting 31 million there is alot of ignorance out there and the facts never change.
ReplyDeleteIf the supreme kangaroo court of canukistan hadn’t contravene the constitution where by all of the provinces are supposed to own, control and be the primary beneficiary of their own non-renewable resources we wouldn't of needed the Atlantic Accord and non of this would be an issue. Newfoundland and Labrador Energy plan. NLEP
Equality or Exit!
Under the Atlantic Accord NL was supposed to be the principal beneficiary of the resources on the Grand Banks of Newfoundland when the Accord was signed in 1985 by the Mulroney-Peckford governments. Mulroney oxymoronically said that he was not afraid to inflict prosperty on NL. During the Chretien government, the primary beneficiary was clearly Ottawa. Martin, the then finance minister took over top job and was likely embarrassed by his government's unashamed rip off of the intent of the Atlantic Accord. During a preelection visit, he agreed to a one time payment of 2 billion dollars to make amends. The Liberals tried to weasel out of the commitment. Williams had a fit, flags down, etc. One disturbing comment made by an Ottawa minion at that time was NL will pay (for this acrimony). In the new budget, Ontario gets $1 billion and NL looses $1.6 billion. It is a puzzle to me how the feds can unabashedly change these agreements/accords. What became of the principle 'a contract is a contract' a la Churchill Falls. Incidentally, the equalization payments beginning in January 2009: Ontario - $347 million Quebec - $8.35 billion Manitoba - $2.1 billion New Brunswick - $1.69 billion Nova Scotia - $1.57 billion P.E.I. - $340 million NL - $O. Newfoundland and Labrador Energy plan. NLEP.
EQUALITY OR EXIT!
February 05, 2009 8:33 PM, sorry Anon, I know your upset but I dont think you should be telling people here to go F@#k themselves.
ReplyDeleteI know that I set a very bad excample and shouldn't talk but this is good. Canadains are finally giving Newfoundland and Labrador the attention it needs so when we do leave this farce of a country they will know why?
I think that they should start learning why we have two provinces with separaton partys in Canada. But, I just dont think they understand the situation in Newfoundland and Labrador.
All its going to take is the drop of a Hat and where gone from your map. But, that shouldnt bother you anyway.Seeing you dont know how to make a map that is legal in the first place.
