Benedict Arnold is Alive and Well in Newfoundland and Labrador

Boy, oh boy. It’s too bad the days of dragging a traitor into the streets and ending their actions quickly and brutally have gone by the wayside. It’s too bad as well that Newfoundland and Labrador seems to breed these traitors like so much vermin.

They crawl out from under rock after rock as soon as someone in Ottawa waves a carrot under their noses. Maybe that’s how this place got its nickname. Only a rock could hide so many vile and disgusting specimens.

So who’s the latest traitor to the people of Newfoundland and Labrador? Well, unlike the ones we can all name from memory from years gone by, this time the traitor is nameless, at least for now.

CBC is reporting two distinct possibilities but who really knows, except the whoremaster himself, Loyola Hearn.

According to Hearn:

"I have eyes, ears near Williams"

The CBC article goes on to say:

Federal Fisheries Minister Loyola Hearn has thrown more fuel into an ongoing feud with Newfoundland and Labrador Premier Danny Williams, with a claim that he has eyes and ears inside Williams's own government.

"There are times I'm sure I know as much as what's going on in cabinet and caucus or on the eighth floor as the premier does," said Hearn, referring to Williams's office in Confederation Building in St. John's.

"I always do. That's why we can always be one step ahead of him," Hearn said in a year-end interview with CBC News. "I have friends throughout cabinet and caucus."

Hearn, the MP for St. John's South-Mount Pearl, has been locked in a verbal battle with Williams for more than two years, and has suffered more than a few barbs from Williams over the federal government's handling of equalization and other issues.

Nonetheless, Hearn said he enjoys strong personal relationships with key provincial Progressive Conservatives, and says some not only support the federal Conservatives, but are considering a jump to the federal party for elected office.

"They do what they have to do and I don't blame them," said Hearn. "But given the choice, they are still there to help, support and run for us perhaps…

The opening of at least one traditional Tory seat has sparked speculation about new candidates, including former provincial cabinet ministers Jack Byrne and Tom Osborne, both of whom were dropped from cabinet in October's shuffle.Neither has ruled out a federal candidacy, and Hearn said both are names he would like to see on a ballot.

I've never really trusted the word of a man whom prefaces his rhetoric with Whig intepretations of history.

The only way to trick the traitors is to vote NDP. Do not vote them into the Mother Party in Ottawa.

If those so called Provincial Conservatives whom you seem to think are operating within the Provincial Conservative party and are thinking that they can jump to the Federal party and and do their province in again, then let us, the electorate, take the bull by the horn and strike them out of government once and for all. These traitors have to be exposed to the electorate for what they are doing to hold their province in a backwards position all for their own personal gain.

There is no limit to which some people will operate for the 'me syndrome'. That is so true, but it is up to the electorate of Newfoundland and Labrador to finally understand how such people operate and stop these corrupt people in their tracks. It is also up to people in the know as to what is happening to educate the masses to open their eyes so that these people can be exposed.

The word Corrupt is the only adjective that I can select to describe people who would do something to damage the well-being of the people for whom they are elected to do their best, but who would turn their backs so as to fulfill the 'me-syndrome' within themselves.

We have to write TRAITOR across their foreheads. The electorate of NO other province of Canada would allow such people to operate as politicians and destroy the chances for their province to move forward. That is the reason the other provinces have zoomed ahead of the province of Newfoundland and Labrador in building economies, while they have FAR LESS NATURAL RESOURCE. Ultimately it is up to expose such politiicans and turf them out.

Did you ever consider the possibitlity that this is all orchestrated? Williams is taking the heat off Harper and placing it on expendable Loyola leading to a happy ending? All fairy tales have happy endings you know - and now that the provincial election is over our opportunistic premier will continue to tone down his "anti-federal" rhetoric and toeing the line so that he can realize his personal ambitions that require the fed's assistance, and everybody walks away happy - except for Loyola, who rides off into the sunset, supposedly shot in the back by both his federal and provincial "friends".
This whole soap opera is laughable, but Newfoundlanders love the drama, don't we?

I agree somewhat with anon from 12:38am, except why take a pass on the Cons and Libs only to vote for another federal party like the NDP? I say vote for the NL-First party and at least we won't vote for someone representing Canada to us instead of representing us in Canada.

Hearn should be pulled before an inquiry and forced to tell who is feeding him information. If he really knows what is being said in caucus and cabinet in NL then someone is committing a breach of privlege inside the provincial government and that someone should be exposed.

Boy, I can't wait to see Loyola tossed out on his fat ass in the next election.

Well Patriot ,if we ever wonder why people do not vote in this country of canada ,we are being reminded by Mr Hearn.

This is absolutly disgusting to say the least. If the accusations are false ,or prove to be legitimate ,thease words still justify an Investigation by the RNC.No wonder why so many Newfoundlander's feel that the federal governement is evil and corrupt.

I myself would have to agree with richard p ,and call on the people of Newfoundland and Labrador to vote for the NLFirst Party. Can they do any worse then this traitor.Better still Myles, will this now be enough for Premeir Williams to stand and vocally support the NLFirst in his "ABC" campaign against "Steve's" Conservative Party.

The coming year looks to be a very intersting one .

At this time Mr Higgons I would like to thank you and the people that support your work in defending Newfoundland's and Labrador's best interst's.I'm sure,as your reader's know, the work never stops Myles and at time's, must seem daunting.I give you my thanks and appreciation .

Happy New Year to you all,and God Bless .

Loyola is some smart. He knows how paranoid Danny is, and just like the leaders of the Russian Communist revolution Danny and his inner circle are paranoid.

The only question now is, who is Trotsky in this game?

Anonymous said...

Anonymous who asked the question
Did you ever consider the possibility that this is all orchestrated on December 31, 2007 9:06 AM?

Yes many, many times! And I have figured out a few cases where I am sure it really was the case.

One was where a former Federal politician came back to become a politician of our Province, then went back to become a MP again in Ottawa, and has made millions since. During his time here we saw one of our major resources being directed so as to be given away under another one of our politician’s tenure ship for the benefit of two provinces in Canada, so as to breathe life into smelters which were sputtering to an end in those provinces. Yes our resource breathed life into the economies of a city in Ontario and a city in Manitoba, while the cities and towns in our province were suffering in a very anemic way, economy-less.

And now there are rumblings that the same politician, along with a few other people with great connections in government, could be gaining personal control of one of our resources.

Politicians have a habit of throwing up smoke screens through bad mouthing each other, in the meantime the same politicians are in bed with each other, especially when they are trying to cook up deals that satisfies the "me syndrome" within their greedy minds and hearts.

The bad mouthing by certain politicians kept the electorate ignorant and the plot worked. When we cannot name names, then things are not so transparent, I think you will understand what I am saying anyway.

That kind of smoke screening worked in the province of Newfoundland and Labrador up till now, but we have cracked the code and we are about to root out that corrupt system. This deceitfulness has to be stopped in its tracks since it has only served to destroy the province of Newfoundland and Labrador up to this point.

Yes we have plenty of resources here yet we do not have a real economy because politicians created those economies for elsewhere while, no doubt, padding their own pockets.

And according to Premier Williams we are the CENTRE OF THE UNIVERSE, in other words we have one of the most strategic locations in the world. In the past we were NOT told that though, were we? That is another tool that kept us backward. Tell them they don't have a good location for creating economies and they will believe it. Yes we did believe it, but that lie is no longer the case, we know the difference.

Resources, both natural and human and an excellent location are the prime ingredients to make a booming economy. With those factors inherent, we could have created the greatest real-market economy in the whole wide world. Why hasn't that big picture economy being created already for the past 58 years? My answer it was because of politicians who did things their way and that way fattened their pockets and not the pockets of ordinary Newfoundlanders and Labradorians.

What mindset does a politician need to allow such a thing to happen? Why couldn't those resources have created a titan of an economy for the province of Newfoundland and Labrador and why shouldn't we have had jobs coming out of our orifices for 58 years or more?

The great sense of entitlement and the patronage system that kept our politicians toeing the line and corrupt MUST GO.

We must have had some of the worst politicians with the most corrupt minds elected in this province for the past 58 years. I do know that you will find politicians elsewhere in dictatorship as bad, but no worse.

Anonymous said...

"titans of economies" are not created by politicians. They are created by successful business leaders, investors and communities. You are just another whiner who figures that whatever is in the ground should be dug out by government and the proceeds handed to you. It doesn't work that way.

You're an idiot. You fall for the same rhetoric as the rest of your crew.

The federal government doles 150 million of taxpayers money into Voiseys Bay, which was purchased by Inco. We could have waited to a local company to buy the mine, but there were none. As long as NLers are unwilling to invest in their own resources, outsiders will do so instead. But there's no chance any govt in Ottawa is going to give NL the money it gave to get Voisey's off the ground.

The Voisey Bay deal, by the way, was and is a very good one. Smelter is being built, absent any business case, and a whole lot of federal money got sent to rural Labrador to help with training and infrastructure. Turned out the deal lasted longer than INCO did, as they were bought up by a foreign company last year.

Do you think another Nickel company would have enetered such an
arrangement? likely not.

When you folks open your eyes and realize that 99% of what happens in business has absolutely ZERO to do with the federal government, maybe you'll see the world in a different light. Until then, keep believing in Danny. He's your man.

By the way, why doesn't Newfoundland have any cable companies anymore? What happened to the millions they scammed off of local ratepayers over the years and where do they pay their taxes?

Yes b'y Danny is some leader.

You have nobody to blame but yourselves.

You voted for a national party representative and that NPR like all of the other NPR before and after will toe the national party line of doing what's in the National parties best interest of getting elected and due to our systemically flawed political system that means doing what's in the best interest of the majority.

You can't blame Hearn Efford ar any of the people you elect to a national party when they toe the national party line. That is what you elected them to do.

Democratic Discrimination against the minority provinces is what we have gotten ourselves into as long as you keep supporting the parties that do what's in the best interest of the majority.

The good people of the NL-First party have given the people of NL the best christmas gift ever the gift of a choice from the three national parties.

The NL-First party like the name says will do what's in the best interest of NL'ians first and the federation as a whole second. They are not obligated to do what's in the best interest of the majority of canadians even if the minority get discriminated against.

You are are the idiot who thinks that all of Newfoundland and Labrador's resources should go to jurisdictions in other parts of Canada to create industry there, just like what happened over the past 58 years.

Politicians create titans of industry and THEY ARE usually active politicians and former politicians.

I can think of one former Prime Minister who has a Shipping Industry which was, no doubt, built on contracts doled out by the Federal Government, as a result of being a politician. I can think of other politicians who have become multi-millionaires for doing favours for the titans of the Auto Sector, and other Canadian sectors. etc.

Enough said!

Sweet God Patriot .I have to agree totally with NL-ExPatriate.

or ,does this have to happen yet again !!!

Stop sending NPR's to Ottawa for sweet sake.Do what the reast of Canada is scared as hell to see you do.Stand up for yourselve's and send your own Party to Ottawa. We only have 2.2 % of the seat's.But,if I can take a line from a few that hang thier hat here .

" If you do what you've always done ,you'll always get the same result "

Its time to break the mould folk's and try what our fellow Canadains have done to the west of us.

No more Victomhood.

You anon of January 01,2008 12:38 AM who said titans of economies" are not created by politicians.

You are the idiot.

I am sure you are aware of politicians who have built empires for themselves while in office. I can remember one high ranking politician who became a Shipping Magnate while his Dynasty was in office. Another politician became a industry titan by making himself versatile in Energy, Banking, through government contracts, etc.

Politicians have created an Auto Magnate out of at least one person, who came to this country with mere cents in his pocket, his progeny ended up as an MP and he even choose one of our NL politicians to head up a new industry spun out of the auto sector, and when the NL ex politician resigned he was paid magnificently, millions to be exact, for less than a year's work. What is it all about? I have seen a politician from Newfoundland and Labrador build an Oil Servicing industry and Waste Management industry while serving as a politician. And the list can go on and on.

From CBC Today:

...Premier Danny Williams says a federal minister's claims to have inside knowledge of the provincial cabinet are absurd and untrue.

..."What Mr. Hearn has basically done is disparage all of them, because people are out there saying, '[If] this is happening, who's doing it?'" Williams said.

"It casts a shadow over absolutely everybody in cabinet and caucus.… I just hope it's not happening on the direction of the prime minister."

Way to go Danny!!!!

Clearly Hearn is trying to divide and conquer by sewing the seeds of mistrust inside the NL government.

If Hearn really had a source inside government does anyone really think he would be going around bragging about it? No way.

This is an attempt to make himself feel like he has control of a bad situation for his federal handlers and to try to cause problems locally. I really love Hearn's comment that "this is why we can stay one step ahead of him (williams)". How in the hell is Ottawa staying one step ahead?

Hearn is clearly a traitor to his people and this latest move just proves it beyond any doubt. It's a case of trying to save his own skin and his precious party rather than doing whats right and standing with his people. He may not like William's tactics, that's one thing, but to try to undermine the cause itself is quite another.

Benedict Arnold is too good a term for a rogue, scoundrel and slimeball like Loyola Hearn.

I love reading this web page.....more laughs than the comics in the newspapers, although the intellectual capacity of the comic writers surpasses 90% of the people who contribute comments.

Anon of 12:38is the exception here. He understands how business works. Paul Martin made his money before he went into politics, not after. The idea that governments create wealth and opportunity is called communism.

And for all you Nfld first supporters out there.....I will bet any one of you that the party doesn't get 5000 votes in total....and that you won't even manage to get seven people to run for the party. Go back to the coffee shops and repeat your conspiracy theories amongst your selves, but don't ever think you will be taken seriously for one simple reason......you have it all wrong.

Anon of January 03, 2008 1:05 PM who wrote" Paul Martin made his money before he went into politics, not after.

I would like for you to see Paul Martin's Net worth Spread Sheet before he entered politics and after, I would bet you dollars to peanuts that the difference would be astronomical.

Don’t forget Paul Martin was part of a Dynasty; his father was in Federal Politics many years before Paul Junior.

The elder Martin entered politics in 1935 and became part of the Cabinet in 1945. That is a long time. The younger Paul just exited politics in the past year.

Please don`t tell me that the Shipping Magnates known as the Martins didn`t gain government business contracts between 1935 and 2007. If they didn`t they were not much on the ball as it relates to the sense of entitlements by politicians.

I think you Anon of January 03, 2008 1:05 PM are a little naive.

I would rather think though you are like the others who protect politicans, you are a spin doctor.

You can spin all you like, we know full well the integrity of politicians.

So Anon of January 03, 2008 1:05 PM - you are naive enough to think that the combination forming the Martin Dynasty in the Federal Government, which spans all the way from 1934 to 2007, didn't get one contract to grow their Shipping Business into the large going concern it is today?

If that is truly your line of thought, well then you are indeed naive or crazy!

Please keep on passing on your crazy jokes and I will be looking out for your input to this site as well.

------------------

I would suggest that the seed for that industry was planted not long after 1934. It might not have been planted as a shipping industry, but evolved throughout the past 70 years into the Shipping Conglomerate it is today, as a result of patronage contracts from Government.

We all know that industry evolves into different forms throught its existence as the opportunities arise to the advantage of business, and then the particular business morps into whatever new form was added.

We also know one of the prime reasons people enter politics and stay there is because of the fact that they are in the center of action for the growing of business. We also know that most of the politicians of today have a strong sense of entitlement, and they are not there for the benefit of their fellow man, whom they conned into voting for them on the basis that they are going to work on their behalf and make things better for the whole of society.

We have many political scandals to demonstrate that, the sponsorship scandal and the constituency allowance scandals are but two which are still fresh in our minds, and there have been hundreds more to speak of, if we went back to the annals of the Canadian political system.
